"Get Away from it All"

North Carolina’s Outer Fringe….a land where you can “get away from it all.

”What is it's unique thrill and vitality?

The Outer Banks were the first part of the Atlantic to be visited by English settlers,  principally Sir Walter Raleigh’s expedition in the 1580’s.Through centuries of isolation the people inhabiting the outer banks have developed a way of life all their own. Hatteras near its southern tip is within 12 miles of the Gulf Stream is known as “Game Fish Junction” because abundance of northern and southern species of fish.  It is off Cape Hatteras that the cold Labrador Current collides with the mild Gulf Stream and forces the northbound flow of tropical water away from the American Coast.

Recognizing the wonderful opportunity for a big game fishing club on Hatteras Island, Charles F. Johnson, Earl Phillips, and Luther Hodges (then governor) organized the Hatteras Marlin Club. This club was to provide a modern club house offering the various services such a club would need to provide its members. Members of the Hatteras Marlin Club who have made use of the Club facilities have found it a wonderful place for fishing of all kinds. For those who are not interested in deep sea fishing alone, the Hatteras Marlin Club offers the starting point for sightseeing trips up or down the Outer Banks or going on beach parties, as there are wonderful beaches and sand dunes within a short distance of the Club. For those members and others in their family who want to relax and be “away from it all” can find a lot of pleasure exploring the region. Any artistic persons would find the Hatteras area a wonderful place for water color sketching or photographing.  The Hatteras Marlin Club offers a central point for those who just wish to relax and forget the grind of everyday life and business.

The Hatteras Marlin Club has been registered with Lloyd’s of London and will be listed in Lloyd’s American Yacht Register providing exchange membership in all registered yacht clubs. The Hatteras Marlin Club will sponsor the Blue Marlin Release Tournament during June. Blue marlin fishermen will come here from many far-away places. This tournament has, through the records of the past provided ample proof to the title of “The Blue Marlin Capital of the World.” Members will find that attendance at the Blue Marlin Invitational Release Tournament, whether they fish or not, is a wonderful way to spend six days, to “get away from it all”, to relax and enjoy the stimulation and the excitement of the tournament as well as the social activities.
